Formspree alternative

A free, open-source Formspree alternative.

Formspree is a solid service, but its free plan keeps 50 submissions a month, needs an account, and saves redirects, file uploads and webhooks for paid plans. sendm8 is a free, open-source form backend that does all of that at no cost, and you can switch by changing one URL.

Fair’s fair. What they do well:

  • Formspree runs a machine-learning spam filter on every plan, supports reCAPTCHA, hCaptcha and Turnstile, and free forms can post to Discord, Slack and Telegram.

02 Switching

One line, usually.

For most forms, it’s one line: change the action URL. Use your email address for a form without an account, or a form id from the dashboard.

04 Questions

Before you switch.

What is the best free alternative to Formspree?
It depends on what you need. sendm8 keeps 1,000 submissions a month per form, includes webhooks, Discord, Slack and Telegram, and is open source. FormSubmit has no stated cap but no dashboard. Web3Forms and Forminit keep integrations for paid plans.
Is there a Formspree alternative that doesn’t need an account?
Yes. sendm8 and FormSubmit both work with your email address in the form’s URL: confirm once by email and submissions arrive. A no-account sendm8 endpoint keeps 100 submissions a month.
Is there an open-source Formspree alternative I can self-host?
sendm8 is open source under AGPL-3.0 and runs on Cloudflare Workers, D1 and R2. The same code runs sendm8.com, and the repository has self-hosting instructions.
How hard is it to move from Formspree?
For most forms you change the action URL. Rename a subject field to _subject, add _next for a thank-you redirect, and swap @formspree/react for @sendm8/react if you use React.
